THE FLOCK

When you hear the word “flock”, you might not instantly recognize its meaning or be able to connect it concretely with an object. Fratelli Casati would like to explain flock to you through the various objects and fields where it is used – you will discover that many of the things you use on a daily basis are made with this product.

WHAT IS FLOCK?

Flock is a powder made from fibres of various kind: it is soft, light and odourless. It is generally coloured since it is dyed during the manufacturing process.

Flock is the main product used in flocking which is the process of covering a flat or three-dimensional object with fibres in various lengths and thickness in order to have a velvet like surface. We should distinguish between cut and ground Flock.

CUT FLOCK

The fibres' length is constant and precise. It can range from 0.3 mm to 10 mm. Cut flock derives from Tow: a bundle of continuous and parallel fibres.

GROUND FLOCK

The fibres' length is irregular. Depending on the grinding grid used, it is possible to get fibres in short mix (0.2 – 0.4 mm.), medium mix (0.5 – 0.8 mm) or long mix (over 0.9 mm). It derives from pieces of discontinuous fibres that are only suitable for grinding and not for cutting.
